GOAL Pop up concept store for B&O Beoplay SS18 collection 'Inspired by the ocean'
[Background]
B&O has introduced their new collection called ‘Inspired by the ocean’. An immersive virtual space is created to transform a space from expected to unexpected, from the centre of the city to the ocean. Participants would have a comprehensive experience which provokes senses, including visual, auditory, olfactory through the artificial ocean and the B&O products displayed in it.

STEP 1 - PRODUCT RESEARCH
B&O has introduced their new collection called 'Inspired by the ocean'.
They adapted colours associated with the ocean to their Beoplay series.
I created a pop up store design concept for this project, naming it the 'Portable Ocean'.
Prior to starting the design, I looked up detailed information about the products.
Then, extracted keywords and metaphors from the information below.

STEP 2 - DESIGN STRATEGY
Portable, anywhere, anytime
Durable - endless,
Ocean, tide, gravel - Natural
Calm & relaxed
By using these keywords, I made up an hypothesis.
1. What if we could carry the ocean...
2. If you can get to the endless sea in the middle of the city...

Concept 1. Portable Ocean
In recent years, shipping containers have been used for a variety of purposes ranging from
houses to shopping centres. I chose shipping containers to create the pop up store, since shipping containers were designed to move everywhere in the world; there are cranes, ships, and trucks designed to move them.
I wanted to place this container in as many different cities as possible, especially in cities not
associated with the sea. (To cause a scene) (For example, desert city like Windhoek, Namibia.)

Concept 2. Endless Ocean
When the container is opened up, visitors can visit another world.
I focused on expressing an endless ocean in a small space.
I wanted to give the visitors the same feeling as if they were moving to a new space.
(Like a doorway to another world)
STEP 3 - TECHNICAL CONSIDERATION
Mirrors and large format display were chosen to express the endless ocean,
and colors have been used in a limited way to enhance brand image.

1. Install a large format display on a wall (1 side) - Hide speakers and cables between the wall and display.
2. Install stands - Products will be displayed on those stands.
3. Install the ground - The surface will be made rugged to emphasize natural sense.
4. Install mirrors - Angle must be controlled precisely to express endless horizon.
5. Install lights - to look like natural lights.
6. Have a specially filmed video to play once, then have the space change into an endless ocean
7. Put gravel on the floor and place the products
