RAISE:
Women’s Right in Sarajevo
2019

DATE   Apr–May 2019
OUTPUT   Teaser (Web/ Poster). 3 day campaign, Art installation (Big data)

Challenge: The women’s groups we met in Sarajevo defined themselves as brave, strong and united but want more of a voice and platform in the city to influence and inspire all Sarajevans. Sarajevan women’s lives and achievements have been overlooked and undocumented. They have a history of resistance, resilience and strength which is acknowledged by current women’s groups but has been forgotten by the city.

Solution: We’ve created a physical/ digital platform to collect women’s voices across the city. This engaging experience is designed to raise women’s voices, making the invisible visible, forming a women’s identity in Sarajevo. (Target: Aimed at women of Sarajevo but welcoming and accessible to all.)
Phase one:
Publicising an event (Teaser)

Posters will appear across the city 2 weeks before the event with a long to a website for more information. For date, we have chosen the 3 days around International Women’s Day. The teaser  gives some clues of the main event and increases curiosities across the city. In this stage, a digital platform will be opened not only to give detailed information but also to collect answers from the public. For a teaser movie, we played on the word ‘Raise’ which reflects how women want to raise their voices to be heard.
Phase two:
3 Day event @ Trebevic cable car

The cable car/ funicular is a key symbol of the city looking to a positive future. It’s reopening on 6th April 2016, after 26 years, was a cause for celebration in the city. A song was written about it and our research showed that that the city is enormously proud that it is reported. It represents the literal rising above Sarajevo’s troubled past.

Our concept uses this significant symbol as a metaphor for women’s voices rising to be heard. Within the cars one can see the entire city and the cars above and below it.

They will enter the cable car and be asked a question on the display. The question will change each day.
On entering the cable car the visitor will see a screen displaying the question. During the journey both up an down you will have time to reflect on the question and discuss with other passengers. There is a device built into the window screen (point to microphone)  for you to input your answers.
This are the questions that might be asked over the days.
The visitors responses will be displayed in large  LED lighting running on panels outside the cable car. The lighting can work in both day and night time as the cable car runs from 9am - 9pm. As you travel on the cable car you will be able to read the responses written on the cale cars above, below and next to you. While doing this you will be looking over Sarajevo and thinking about women presence in the city and issues they might be facing.
Phase THREE:
Permanent legacy

On arrival at the top there will be another bill board and a chance to walk next to it to see the viewing platform to take in the whole of the city. It will also be the chance to discuss with other visitors their interactions.
The responses to the question will be collated and counted. These will be added to a light installation which will be on show during the event displaying the updated responses. After the event the responses will keep showing and changing on the light installation and act as a permanent reminder of the many voices raised and opinions expressed during the event
We could mirror this event in London on the TFL cable car if funding is available.
